Day 3 : Absheron and Gobustan tours

- 10:00 Gobustan Rock Art CulturalLandscape covers three areas of a plateau ofrocky boulders rising out of the semi-desert ofcentral Azerbaijan, with an outstandingcollection of more than 6,000 rock engravingsbearing testimony to 40,000 years of rock art.The site also features the remains ofinhabited caves, settlements and burials, allreflecting an intensive human use by theinhabitants of the area during the wet periodthat followed the last Ice Age, from the UpperPaleolithic to the Middle Ages. The site, whichcovers an area of 537 ha, is part of the largerprotected Gobustan Reservation.
- Gobustan Rock Art represents flora and fauna, hunting, lifestyles, and culture of pre-historic and medieval periods of time. The carvings on the rocks illustrates primitive men, ritual dances, men with lances in their hands, animals, bull fights, camel caravans, and pictures of the sun and stars. The date of these carvings goes back to 5,000 – 20,000 years before present.
- Mud volcanoes About 200 eruptions have occurred in 50 volcanoesin the territory of Azerbaijani Republic since 1810.Eruption of mud volcanoes is accompanied by strongexplosions and underground rumbling. Gasses comeout from the deepest layers of the earth andimmediately ignite. A height of a flame over volcanoreaches 1000 meters
- 13:00 The Bibi-Heybat Mosque is ahistorical mosque in Baku. The Bibi-HeybatMosque includes the tomb of UkeymaKhanum, and today is the spiritual centerfor the Muslims of the region and one of themajor monuments of Islamic architecture inAzerbaijan.

- Fire Mountain is a natural gas fire whichblazes continuously on a hillside on the Absheron Peninsula on the Caspian Sea near Baku. The Yanar Dagh fire is never extinguished. Around this open fireplace the atmosphere is filled with the smell of gas.
